The Clifden Traditional Music Festival began on the 23rd April 2010. The weekend was a great sucess with musicians and listeners coming in to join all the local talent and listeners.
Guest performers on that weekend included: Larry Gavin;Accordion, Clare, Micheal O'Rourke;Fiddle Clare, Teresa Ryan;Flute Galway, Bernie Conneely; Banjo Mayo, The Leonard Family; Leitrim, The Maguire Family; Fermanagh, Mickey Curran,; Accordion, Tyrone and a whole host more. The Cunningham Family Sean nos dancers performed on the Gig Rig which was moved to the Alcock and Brown Hotel due to weather conditions and a great weekend of music was established in the town. Music sessions could be heard all weekend and the weekend finished up with a farewell session in Foyles Hotel.
Building on from the 1st festival in 2011, the festival grew even more.
The official opening concert in the Clifden Station house hotel was full to capacity and great music sessions could be heard up town afterwards. On Saturday the music and dance workshops were very well attended with students coming from all over the west. The afternoon sessions were a big hit and Emma O Sullivan and members of Rhythm of the Dance performed along with a host of local talent on the Gig Rig on the town square. Again the pub music sessions were a mighty success with a host of visiting and local musicians performing. The Traidtional Music Mass in St. Josephs church started the wind down of the festival and the farewell session in Foyles Hotel on Sunday afternoon continued onto the town square to being a great end to the weekend.
