The 2012 Festival will take place from the 13th - 15th April 2012  in Clifden, Co. Galway.

Festival Programme 2012:


Official Opening and Concert - Clifden Station House Hotel - 7.00pm

Performers will include: West Coast Grupai Cheoils, Clifden Senior Comhaltas, Clifden Junior Comhaltas, Mickey Curran, Liz Kane, Maura Walsh, Chris Maguire, Cathriona, Josie and Una Canavan, Sacra Furey, Maude Connolly, Bernie Conneely, Teresa Ryan and loads more and lots of local musicians, singers and dancers!





10.45 am - Accordion - Chris Maguire, Fiddle - Philip Duffy, Concertina - Maura Walsh, General Instruments - Sacra Furey

Sean Nos Dance - Brian Cunningham

1pm - Youth Session - Alcock and Brown Hotel

2.30pm - A visit to St. Annes Nursing Home by Clifden Youth Comhaltas

   "DARTRY CEILI BAND" - 11 Piece band from Sligo, All Ireland Champions!

Lots of music, song, dance, craic and ceol.  Not to be missed!!


Pub Music Sessions will take place Friday and Saturday night throughout the town and also on Saturday afternoon and a farewell session on Sunday Morning.    A traditional music mass will take place in St. Josephs Church Clifden at 11am on Sunday the 15th of April.


A big highlight this year will be the "Gig Rig"  on the town square on Saturday evening.  The "Dartry Ceili Band" who are All Ireland Champions and hail from Sliog and Mayo will perform on the Gig Rig from 7.30pm.  It promises to be a great night and lots of local talent will also perform.  Its the 1st time an act of this calibre has performed at Clifden Trad Fest and we expect it to be a great night! and its free!!!


Music and Dance workshops will take place on Saturday morning at 11am with registration before.  Details of venues to follow.  Youth session to follow.

Clifden Trad Fest 2019


The 10th Annual Clifden Traditional Music Festival will take place this year from the 11th – 14th of April in Clifden, Connemara, Co. Galway.  The Festival will begin on Thursday 11th April with a Seisiun na nOg in the Atlantic Hotel .


Friday will start early with Scoil Mhuire Marching Band performing on the town square at 11.30am. Also on the Friday, the Official Opening and Concert will take place in the Clifden Station House Theatre at 7pm.  The event will feature a host of artists from all over Ireland as well as lots of local talent.


Saturday will begin with music workshops in Fiddle, Button Accordion and Concertina with top class tutors to be announced. Both intermediate and advanced students will be caterd for,.


Music Sessions are a very big part of the festival and again this year feature a host of champion musicians from all over Ireland.  Musicians will include:, Liz Gaughan(Fiddle) and Brendan Quinn(Flute) from Tipperary, Anthony Kavanagh(Banjo), George McAdam (Banjo) from Monaghan, Michael Curran(Tyrone) on accordion, Paul Clesham on Piano, Liz and Yvonne Kane(Fiddles),Cian Kearins(Flute), Niamh O Sullivan(Concertina), Maura Walsh from Kerry on Concertina, Caoimhe Kearins on Fiddle from Sligo and many many more musicians.   All are most welcome to take part in the sessions over the weekend.


The pub sessions will take place throughout the weekend and all details will be given in the brochure which will be released Mid February.:


A big highlight of the festival this year will be again the outdoor gig on the street on Saturday night.  This year it will feature The Dartry Ceili Band as the headline act.The Dartry Céilí Band formed in 2007 and hail from Co. Sligo. They have become in a very short time, a top ranking band, having won the All-Ireland Senior Céilí Band competition in 2009. Dedication, motivation and individually strong players has seen to this, coupled with that North Connacht, joyous fiery style (I'm biased!). The counties of Monaghan, Mayo and Roscommon are also represented in the lineupExpect lively entertainment from this well known group.  They will be joined by a host of dancers and guest artists.  


On the Saturday of the festival, don’t miss the Clifden Trad Fest 5K Run which will leave from the town centre at 2.30pm on the Saturday of the festival.  Street Entertainment and music and song on the Gig Rig from 3pm and a busking competitionwill also take place on the Saturday of the Trad Fest from 1.30pm all around the town.
